“A Passion for Interiors”

I’ve got a passion for interior design books and I’ve certainly been no stranger to those authored by Carolyne Roehm.  I have to agree with a quote from Roehm’s website, “Oprah Winfrey admits, ‘Whenever I’m having a stressful day, I just want to open up Carolyne Roehm’s books, look at beautiful things, and dream.’”  It’s absolutely true!  She has such a way with layering.  Nothing seems overdone, and yet, there is nothing done in a minimal fashion, either.

I’m so happy we’re coming up on the holiday season, as a few heavy hints might lead toward receiving this delicious, new publication! . . .

Not only does she share table-setting inspirations, she pops in a divine recipe, in her web edition:

Presenting Pecans

These are the easiest pecan treats to make, the perfect mix of sweet and salt. I recommend using kosher salt or Portuguese sea salt to give the pecans a little extra zing. We shopped at BJ’s; any good box or bulk food store would be a great source for pecans this time of year.

Recipe for Mittie Ann’s Sugared Pecans
1 pound pecan halves
1 egg white
1 teaspoon cold water
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt

  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Beat egg white with water until fluffy.
  2. Fold pecans into egg whites until well coated.
  3. Mix cinnamon, sugar and salt. Fold coated pecans into sugar mix. Bake on a cookie sheet for 1 hour. Serve warm.

Can you imagine the aroma, wafting through the kitchen, while these are in the oven?

Ms Roehm has archived a lovely list of tips for making guest feel welcome.  ‘Tis the season for sharing, which also includes our home and a comfy place to rest!

One of my favorite things to do, on a winter’s evening, is to plump up some pillows and curl up in bed with a good book.  That season won’t be too far away.  I think this book will definitely end up in my reading stack!

What’s your interior passion?  Please do share!

All my best! ~ Wanda
