". . . I have had two color (colour!) consultations since our Atlanta Colour Conference. I LOVE it. After learning your system, I find that the color chooses you. When I perform your preliminary color tests with the fan deck, I have a magic wand, too! After we talk about and analyze the big fixed elements, the client can see perfectly why it is the right color. Amazing. The time just flies by. I am in my creative element, and I can't thank you enough for setting me off on this wondrous course. . . " Ellen Rhett, Birmingham, AL

This course is not colour theory, (click here to read my post on how knowledge of theory alone is insufficient) it is a practical, experiential, how-to workshop on learning to see the undertones of complex neutrals as well as choosing colour palettes that flow for you and your clients.
Have you ever found yourself in any of these places?
1.) Walked into a freshly painted (or not so fresh) house, kitchen or bathroom and saw there was something ‘off’ about the colours and or/the combination of tile but didn’t know what it was?
2.) Ever seen a beige-on-beige room that didn’t quite work (because the beige tones were wrong?)
What you were seeing were the undertones of colour especially the complex neutrals, beige and gray and taupe (combination of both).
You can show a tile sample to three different people and each one will see a different undertone or colour. Which one is right? That’s what you will learn.
Why are complex colours so complicated? Because a colour that falls into the category of a ‘muted, designer colour’ changes when you compare it to another one. For example, a beige that might appear yellow by itself will look pink when compared to another colour.
A Certified True Colour Expert can walk into any room, and distinguish what works and what doesn’t about the undertone of the colours in the space.
Learn to see colour like a professional. How to choose colour expertly and with confidence as well as create colour palettes that flow from one room to another.

Day 3, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm
Presentation and discussion of interiors, what works and what doesn't work, how to enhance them using colour.
Colour creates a feeling, students will create colour schemes in a variety of interior design styles using 4 colours only. For example, a typical ‘modern’ palette consists of red, gray, white and black or a ‘Cottage Country’ palette is yellow, fresh green, periwinkle blue and pink. Understanding a variety of palettes inside the typical, ‘contemporary, country, modern, traditional’ will help you when creating a colour scheme from nothing!
Understanding undertones for exterior and interior is a requirement for any interior designer. Colour mistakes are expensive because colour choices and undertones are in every surface not just paint colour and those mistakes surround us every day, every where we go.
This is a how-to course on conducting interior and exterior consultations including creating colour schemes from scratch.
In addition to colour mixing we will be discussing:
1. Colour flow and how to create it
2. How to set up finishes (tile, flooring, cabinetry) or work with existing elements so that the client and the designer can 'see' it accurately.
2. How to work with existing and dated elements in a space (if possible) or
3. How to effectively communicate to a client how their choices moving forward are going to impact the current decor based on fixed elements staying in the space that do not work.
4. Remember my post 80% of the time you use 20% of the colours, you will receive a list of the colours I use 20% of the time to start your collection of big samples which are mandatory for accurate colour selection.
There are 4 undertones of beige, pink, yellow, green and orange, Gray has 3 undertones, green, blue and purple.
Colour is described in 3 ways, it's always either:
Clean or dirty, light or dark, warm or cool
The biggest mistake designers make when choosing colour is the clean/dirty shift in colour, we will be working with colour chips to train your eye in selecting the right colours the first time. We will also be talking about how to test colour accurately and how this step cannot be skipped for accurate colour specifying.
At the same time that I say this, having the confidence to select colour comes with seeing a lot of colour, AND this is a much faster way of becoming confident with colour choices because you will have learned the process and begun to trust your eye when you are seeing undertones that are not right and what to do to fix it. Very important.
"I came home and picked out my house colors in about 1/2 hour. What I learned and the references we put together in your class made the choices almost obvious!" Hannah Dee, Designer and Participant
"I just wanted to say thank you for giving me the confidence to do and complete my very first exterior color consult. My client was thrilled, the colors look great and she said she is going to refer me to everyone she knows. I never would have had the self confidence to do it if it I had not taken your class. I just thought I would share this with you and once again say thanks for sharing your passion with everyone." Linda Holt, Designer, photographer and Participant
