I just proposed this idea to a client...taking all their mismatched frames and painting them a fun color to make a huge statement! What do you think? Me likey!

Artist Love
I don't claim to know a lot about art. But I do know what I like! And to me that is all that matters when it comes to purchasing art....you have to love it, be moved by it and/or leave the gallery or shop dreaming about it. Through all my blog reading, I have come across some amazing artists (I love) lately and wanted to share these talents with you.

123, ABC
I have always liked the concept of letters (or numbers) in a nursery, I mean why not have art that is functional! Designer Sara Richardson did it right (above) by taking letters of different fonts, sizes and painting them all different colors and hanging them above a rail at the top of the ceiling. Bravo! And I don't mind seeing the child's name written on the wall but let's face it, this concept has been WAY over done (thanks Pottery Barn!). But I am really digging the concept of doing something outside the box with a name or the alphabet. Like the designers of formbaby.com did in their son's nursery below where she used stencils to paint the name on the wall in a glossy finish against the matt wall (or perhaps they are decals?) either way she nailed it!
I think stainless letters/numbers would be cool and give the nursery a modern edge.
This custom made artwork is cute too!
I have always wanted to find vintage blocks and hang them on a wall, maybe in a large grid?
Anyone have any other "outside the box" types of ideas they have done or seen? Not creative?No worries. I did an etsy.com search and found some cute stuff out there and all you have to do is buy in and hang it on your wall!

Art For The Kiddies
I am helping a client with her daughter's room and due to my unnatural obsession with Barbie, I thought it could be cute to incorporate something from the doll icon as art. Well if you want to see some crazyass sh*t, search etsy.com for "Barbie Art"! Holy crap. It will take a while to get some of those images out of my head! But there is also some super cute stuff from the alphabet to wall decals to painted canvases so let me show you some of that instead...

Copy Cat?
This first image is one I pulled years ago of an old French window turned mirror hanging above a sofa as a diptych art piece. (Sorry that I don't know the designer, photographer or magazine! Anyone?) If you know me at all, then you know I am obsessed with circles! So I was going to have my carpenter recreate this concept in a client's home. Then I came across a similar mirror from Arteriors Home, a to-the-trade resource. I am not certain that they were inspired from this but I imagine so because their product came out about a year or so after this magazine feature. Interesting!

Pro or Con: Floating Shelves
I am veheminatly against floating wall shelves (and brackets for that matter) that serve no purpose. And I see it SO often! I know they sell them everywhere and people buy them to fill up space on a wall but they have no idea how to a) hang them and b) accessorize them.
Please don't ever do this!!!

(I am so sorry to you, whoever you are!!! But I had to prove my point.)
You will see that I only have a certain style of floating shelves represented here and that is because I am biased, this is the only kind I like. Why? They are designed to be installed into studs so that they can actually hold weight and not pull out of the wall. And they hold more than a single candle.
I think they are great to add architectural detail to a niche like this...
Or in a child's room to keep precious toys out of reach!

They are also great in a kitchen to break up all the heavy cabinetry...
And who says they have to be wood? LOVING the marble!
And when done right, I like them to display art or photos...
And look at this clever minx, great idea when you are short on space!
