Contemporary Interior Design Ideas: In The Bedroom

Who said the only furniture in the bedroom has to be the bed, bedside tables and dressers? When you want to add form and function to your bedroom consider adding some seating. This will of course only be possible in a larger bedroom, but if you have the room, an elegant chaise can completely transform it into an luxurious parlour. You could also create a cosy corner with an overstuffed chair, end table, small lamp and a footstool. When you need to create a place of escape within your home, this is a good option.

Add elegance to your bedroom with full length pencil pleat curtains in a soothing, chic colour – again if you've got a large bedroom – have the curtains extend further than the end of your windows to create a chic hotel look. Statement headboards are also part of the contemporary design scene – make your own by choosing fabulous patterned curtain material online. It's a good idea to add extra height to get the full effect and if you can tie-in your bed's valance with the same fabric it will bring a sense of balance and cohesion to your room.

A Brief Look At Feng Shui

You could look at Feng Shui as having an underlying theme of nature and its concepts will relate in some respects to the interior design trend of green-living.

First, the arrangement of furniture is very important. With beds or seating, you should try to have them placed so that when they are in use you have a clear path of sight towards the door or entrance to that room. Furthermore, the positioning should allow you to see so much of the room as possible. For example, bed-heads will be placed on the back wall of a room in the direction of the door.

* You will need adequate and good storage solutions so that everything is neatly kept in place rather than cluttering up spaces and the flow of nature's energy.

* Never use dried flowers as these are considered dead and therefore don't provide positive energy – always use fresh flowers and plants. Add further touches of floral designs by opting for curtain material online which will give you the widest choice of colours and designs to compliment your colour scheme.

* Choose your colours wisely as some will have a more positive affect on well-being than others. Lime green curtains are a good choice which reflect nature, new growth and new beginnings.

Keep you home clutter free and introduce aspects of Feng Shui into each room to feel the difference in your home!

Give Yourself A Winter Home Improvement Project

Up-cycling and recycling continue to make a huge impression of the world of interior design. It's not only kinder to the planet it's also kinder to the pocket!

I love the idea of selecting random styles of chairs painting them and re-upholstering the seats with the same fabric to give a sense of cohesion and balance. With the wide choice of curtain material online you can find some fabulous patterns and designs at really low prices. Just image how much chairs like this would cost if bought pre-done?

Have some fun in your spare time and actually get round to carrying out a DIY project which doesn't involve painting walls or building cupboards from scratch. The great thing about this type of project is that you can take your time and complete it over a number of months as you find another chair in need of some TLC, just remember to but sufficient fabric if you want the chair seats to match.

Alternatively you could use completely different fabrics just as long as the shades and tone compliment each other, and still produce some simply stunning dining chairs!

If you opt for patterned fabric if you have plain walls and curtains or plain fabric if you have patterned walls and curtains otherwise the chic styling you're trying to achieve may just end up looking like a mis-match which you won't be happy with!
