Last year, just for fun I posted my goals for 2009 here. I have always put together collage boards for my goals since I was in my late teens. I came across one a while ago that said “I make $21,000 a year!” Back then that was a big goal when I was 18 :) So here’s what happened in a year:
1. I said I wanted an BMW x3 without knowing that it was smaller than the x5 and I need space for all the sourcing I’m constantly doing for my clients. This is the one I bought instead, it’s a 2002, the new one was not in my budget :) It’s hard to give up driving a designer car once you’ve had one.
2. Did not get to Italy this year, it’s still on the list!
4. A new dining table and chairs, still on the list.
5. Here I said I wanted a Louis Vuitton bag, but after I posted the photo it was in my head for this whole year so in the end I didn’t want it anymore because I felt like I’d already had it. Has anyone else had this experience? I bought a Coach bag (below) at an outlet store in the fall and I like it so I’m not so attached to having a Louis bag at this point.
6. An orange Hermes daytimer. Turns out it’s not compatible with the Filofax daytimer I use so I bought an orange Kate Spade wallet in the exact same colour and I love it!
7. Well I’m not going to post a picture of the flat stomach I wanted here, it still doesn’t look like hers but I’m slimmer and fitter than I’ve ever been so I credit that to posting this photo on my blog!
8. Here I said I wanted to get my work published in a shelter magazine and kind of as a joke I also said “If nothing else is available I’ll take the cover”. When the possibly of getting on the cover was discussed, my client said “Isn’t that what you posted on your blog?” I had to go back and look because I didn’t remember that I had written it down!
9. Here I said I wanted to get paid to fly somewhere and speak about colour. And that happened in May, I flew to Calgary and did a talk at a designer event for a Persian Rug Company!

10. My last one was to form a mastermind group with a bunch of designers. This did not happen simply because I didn’t get committed to organizing one.
Last year the other thing I did was name my year. I called it my Year of Publicity and it certainly was. I wrote an article that was published in 2 magazines and got on the cover (as mentioned above). My blog was mentioned in the Washington Post Blog Watch 5 times. Click here to see the articles.
So this year I’m naming 2010 my Year of Now. I feel like I’ve been waiting and waiting for something to happen for too many years. Waiting and working to get really good at what I do so that I can have a great website (finally)! Waiting to define my look (which I talked about here) working on regular posts for my blog-- so that it stays high on google rankings--so people can find me, which is now happening. Most of the business and the calls I get weekly are now as a direct result of this blog.
And you know the pitfall of happiness right? The conversation we have with ourselves called “I’ll be happy when. . . “ I’ve stopped doing that for a few years now (well not totally but way less than I used to), 10 years of participating in Landmark Courses all through my 30’s trained me to communicate in a way that empowers other people--I’m human and it doesn’t always go that way--but I’m committed to being that kind of person and it’s why my blog name has happy in it!
Every course basically asks (in so many different ways) “Are you living your life powerfully? Are you living a life that you love?” My life looks the way that it does because of everything I learned through participating in them.
Plus it’s no surprise that you’ll find yourself learning something on this blog because I do have the personality of a teacher, (by the way there is still time to register for January 6 if you want to take my colour course at the VCC) it took me way longer than I think it should have for me to get where I am so I’m always happy to make it easier for someone else to find their way.
So, inside my Year of Now, here are my goals for 2010:
1. This is the house I currently rent with my partner, I want to buy it and renovate it, I don’t want to move—I love this house!
The owner grew up here and she wants to renovate it or build a new one (she hasn’t decided). But I’m hoping she’ll change her mind and sell it to us.

I’ve been afraid to say this out loud because I worry that it might not happen and that in April when our lease is up they might be ready to renovate the house themselves but amazing things have happened when people start writing and speaking their goals so that’s what I’m doing.
2. I want a paint company to sponsor this blog, not next month or next year. NOW :) And I’m committed to making this happen so you’ll be hearing from me this month!
3. I want my work published 5 times in magazines this year. And I’ll definitely take the cover page again!
4. I have received many emails and requests to schedule a 2 or 3 day colour course so I will be scheduling it by the end of January for late Spring or early Summer.
